County Coronavirus Update
Coronavirus update - 14 March
(Sent to all members)
There have been a number of questions over the last few days around Coronavirus and what we should be doing within Scouting. Following Timís email and the update from the government yesterday, I wanted to reiterate the advice.
We should all be looking to follow the governments advice on managing the risk and keeping up to date on developments. The Government's Coronavirus (COVID-19) webpage is frequently updated as things develop, so please check it regularly at www.gov.uk/coronavirus.
The situation will continue to develop and we must respond in a calm and considered way. Therefore, like elsewhere, our members should follow the standard advice on self-isolation. Please also monitor the situation in your local area; whilst we are not being asked to stop Scout meetings any decision to meet needs to have the full support of all leaders Ė if they are unhappy to meet or have concerns they should postpone meetings. If you have a local school closed as a result of Coronavirus risk, then it may be appropriate to postpone/stop Scout meetings, activities & events in the same area.
Following a meeting of the Board of Trustees Thursday night, after much consideration we have decided to postpone all Oxfordshire County Scout Events from 31st March until 31st August 2020. As things currently stand events planned in March will continue, e.g. CESAW, unless government advice changes. This decision is purely from a financial perspective at this time, to date we have not made any financial commitment to events after March and it therefore seems appropriate given the changing position to hold off from doing so at this time.
This does mean that Awards Day in May will be postponed, all nominations entered will stand and be invited to the next awards event. The County AGM planned for June will also be postponed and County Camp will also be postponed (this is due to the rearranging of other events and the clashes it could lead to). More details on new dates will be provided when possible. Please note that Gilwell 24 is not an Oxfordshire County Event and the decision to cancel this does not lie with us; however as a County we will not be looking to arrange coaches to the event this year.
If you have any questions please let me know or speak to your District Commissioner.
